NBA是美国职业篮球队的联盟，由它制定的NBA规则必然与国际业余篮球联合会制定的FIBA规则不尽相同。NBA规则除包含FIBA规则中各种必不可少的行之有效的法则之外，还有自己鲜明的地域性、商业性以及保证和促进精彩表演的特点。

（一）比赛通则
1．球场规格
NBA的球场尺寸是长94英尺（28．65米），宽50英尺（15．24米）。球场的丈量是从界线的内沿量起，线宽为2英尺（5．08厘米）。

如果20秒结束时比赛不能继续进行，也应登记一次常规暂停。
（2）常规暂停（100秒）
每队有权请求7次要登记的常规暂停。限定每队在第四节中不得超过4次暂停；在第四节的最后两分钟内不得超过3次暂停。在加时赛内，允许每队3次暂停。
队员请求100秒暂停，只有当球成死球或该队控制球时才给予。队员要喊出："暂停"。

8．24秒钟规则

1．3秒钟规则
某队控制球，该队队员不得在罚球区停留超过3秒钟。

对任何队员、教练员或训练员的没有体育道德的行为最多可判罚两次技术犯规。任何违犯者只要有一次没有体育道德的行为，就可被驱逐；有两次没有体育道德的行为必须被驱逐。
没有体育道德的行为如：与裁判员讲话无礼貌；以身体接触裁判员；对宣判公开表示不满；使用亵读的言语；未经裁判员允许教练员进人场地；故意伸肘或试图动手脚但未包含接触。
还有一些技术犯规不是由不符合体育道德的行为造成的，如：延误比赛；球队席区域的违例；球成活力球时场上队员不足或多于5名；进攻队员故意地吊在篮圈或篮板上等等。
在死球期间发生非法接触，如果在性质上被认为是不符合体育道德的，可判为一次技术犯规；如果接触是不必要的和过分的，可判为恶意犯规。
（2）打架犯规
比赛中或死球期间，队员、教练员或训练员打架，要登记技术犯规，不判给罚球，参加打架的人员应立即被驱逐。另根据情况判打架人员不超过20000美元的罚款和停赛。

（1）双方犯规

不管是侵人犯规或是技术犯规都不判给罚球，只给队员登记犯规，不登记全队犯规。如果宣判双方犯规或打架犯规时某队拥有球权，应保留球权，在靠近比赛中断地点的边线掷界外球继续比赛。如果宣判双方犯规或打架犯规时双方球队都未拥有球权，或投篮未成功球在空中，应由任何两个非同队的队员在中圈跳球继续比赛。如果投篮成功，得分有效，在底线掷界外球继续比赛。如果双方犯规是作为裁判员意见不同的结果，不计得分，应由任何两个非同队的队员在中圈跳球继续比赛。
（2）进攻犯规
在球成活球后，进攻队员与对方发生非法的接触，是进攻犯规。
进攻队员侵人犯规，如不是肘部犯规、拳击犯规，也不是恶意犯规，应按如下罚则处理：不判给进攻队得分；登记犯规队员一次侵人犯规；不登记该队全队犯规（队员第六次侵人犯规，并且该队已无有资格的替补队员除外）。
（3）无球权犯规
在球成活力球后，在双方球队均未拥有球权时与对方发生非法的接触，是无球犯规。
队员侵人犯规．如不是拳击犯规、恶意犯规、也不是肘部犯规，而且发生犯规时双方球队均未拥有球权，应按如下罚则处理：登记犯规队员一次侵人犯规；登记犯规队一次全队犯规；如果全队犯规罚则未出现，判给对方队在靠近犯规地点的边线掷界外球；如果全队犯规罚则出现，判给被侵犯的队员一次罚球加一次罚球。
如果判了防守队一次无球权犯规，接着投篮（罚球）成功，应判给被侵犯的队一次罚球，使有可能得3分或4分。这条规定适用于：不管是对哪个进攻队员犯规；不管全队犯规罚则是否出现。
如果判了进攻队一次无球权犯规，接着进攻队员投篮成功，不计得分。
（4）拳击犯规
队员用拳猛击对方，是拳击犯规。
因拳击宣判队员的非法的接触，是一次侵人犯规和一次全队犯规。应判给一次罚球，不论罚球成功与否，将球判给被侵犯的队在中场掷界外球。
